At their Terry Redlin Center winter engagement session, Karen and Ethan laughed, danced, twirled, and bear hugged with endless smiles and laughter.
Karen + Ethan met through her cousin and his best friend after Karen moved back to South Dakota not too long ago. In Karen’s own words, “Ethan proposed when we went deer hunting, we were getting ready at the vehicle before going into the field and he asked! Kori (his daughter) was with us so she got to share the special moment and also picked out our ring.”
Ethan’s favorite thing about Karen is her outstanding personality, while Karen really enjoys watching Ethan be a father. They love spending time with them as well as hunting together and enjoy each others sense of humor and personalities.
During their session, I had the honor of photographing some sweet family photos to symbolize the start of a new beginning as a new family. Additionally, Ethan and Karen, at their Terry Redlin Center winter engagement session, decided to pull out some camo and take some fun photos.
The Ruby’s will tie the knot at their private family farm on May 25th this spring. I cannot explain how excited I am to serve them both on their happiest of days and create some magical photographs for them to look back on for years to come, and share with future generations.

Last Friday evening, I had the pleasure of photographing Sam and Jasmine’s engagement session at the stunning Dakota Nature Park in Brookings, SD. It was the kind of evening you dream about for a fall session — no wind, perfect temperatures, and clear blue skies reflecting off the park’s serene pond. Despite it being a fall Friday, the park was surprisingly quiet, save for a few other photographers we ran into, making it feel like we had the place to ourselves.
I was so excited to finally meet Sam and Jasmine in person for their October, fall-vibe Dakota Nature Park engagement session! From the moment we met, I could feel their love and warmth. We kicked things off by snapping a few photos with Sam’s dog, who brought so much fun and energy to the beginning of the shoot. Afterward, we moved toward the lake, where the vibrant fall colors created the perfect backdrop for some beachside shots. Walking around the lake, we found so many beautiful spots, each one offering a unique look that highlighted their love story.
In just an hour, we captured so many beautiful moments. Sam and Jasmine are incredibly sweet and caring, and it was evident in every interaction. As they talked about their future, I couldn’t help but feel excited for them. Both of them are RN nurses, and their dedication to serving others was so clear in the way they support and love each other.
I can’t wait to celebrate with them at their wedding next June at The Hotel Hartington in Nebraska — which just so happens to be over my birthday weekend! It’s going to be such a special day.

Owen and Hallee’s Ivory North wedding at Ivory North Co. in Mora, MN, was a breathtaking celebration. The venue’s charm, with its blend of rustic and modern elements, set the perfect backdrop for their special day. Their color palette of soft greens and pastel purples added a fresh and romantic touch. It complemented the abundance of live florals and greenery that adorned both the ceremony and reception spaces.
The day began with the ladies getting ready in the stunning white chapel barn basement. It is a beautifully renovated space filled with natural light. Meanwhile, Owen and his groomsmen prepared in the sleek, modern men’s getting-ready building. It created such a fun contrast between the two settings. Hallee’s first look with her nephew was one of the sweetest moments of the day, filled with pure joy and laughter.
Owen and Hallee’s private first look was equally special, taking place in a unique black open building nestled in the middle of a grove. The intimate setting provided a serene and personal moment for the couple before the festivities began. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect, with warm sunshine and a gentle breeze setting the tone for a picture-perfect outdoor ceremony.

Kelsey and Asau’s Sylvan Lake engagement session at Sylvan Lake in late August was filled with beauty, adventure, and a few challenges. We arrived around 5 p.m. on a Saturday evening, right in the middle of Labor Day weekend. As you can imagine, the lake was bustling with people. Finding peaceful, quiet spots for photos took a bit of patience, but the lively atmosphere added a fun energy to the shoot.
There is currently a $20 fee to be able to enter into Custer State Park. Their entrance is right at the base of Sylvan Lake, so take into consideration that each car will need to pay that fee. Also, parking is always extremely hard to find, especially on Labor Day weekend. We had to drive the parking loop a few times, but ended up finding plenty of open spots near the back parking area, just a couple hundred feet from the start of the lake and walking paths. Naturally, there were hundreds of people there and even a few weddings going on, so privacy was hard to find.
One of the biggest challenges was working with the direct sunlight. The bright, open skies created harsh lighting, but it also gave us an opportunity to get creative. The sunlight reflecting off the water and bouncing between the towering rocks gave Kelsey and Asau a beautiful, natural glow. By carefully choosing angles and working with the shadows, we captured some stunning images that truly reflected their connection.
Sylvan Lake is an incredible place for an engagement session, but it has its pros and cons. The backdrop is breathtaking—the towering granite formations, peaceful trails, and clear waters create a romantic, natural setting that’s hard to beat. However, it can get crowded, especially during busy weekends, and the harsh sunlight in certain areas can be tricky to manage.
For anyone planning a session at Sylvan Lake, I recommend arriving early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid the crowds. It’s also helpful to bring a reflector or scope out shaded spots ahead of time to manage the lighting. Despite any challenges, the magic of Sylvan Lake always shines through, making it a perfect spot for capturing unforgettable moments.

Capturing Hailey and Brett’s Lake Elsie and Buffalo Ridge Resort engagement session in Gary, South Dakota, was a delightful adventure filled with laughter, love, and picturesque moments. We began our journey at the serene Lake Elsie, where the afternoon sunshine cast a dreamy glow over the water. Hailey and Brett’s love for each other shone through as they posed by the lakeside.
After soaking in the beauty of the lake, we headed to a nearby shaded meadow for a cozy picnic. The soft grass and dappled sunlight provided the perfect backdrop for candid moments of the couple enjoying each other’s company. They laughed, danced, and even had a little picnic feast, all while I captured their genuine connection. The relaxed atmosphere of the meadow allowed Hailey and Brett to be themselves, resulting in some truly heartwarming photos.
Our next stop was the stunning Buffalo Ridge Resort. The resort’s impressive stone buildings and lush green ivy offered a dramatic contrast to the natural settings we had explored earlier. Hailey and Brett’s playful spirits came alive as they danced on the resort’s charming patio area, their smiles lighting up the frame. We then moved around the corner to use the elegant stairs and blooming flowers as our backdrop. The stone structures and vibrant flora created a timeless and elegant touch.
Two hours later, we made our way back to Lake Elsie for a final adventure. With permission from the campground owners, we borrowed a boat from Brett’s boss and got it out onto Lake Elsie at Talking Waters Campground. This was Hailey’s biggest wish to include in their session and it turned out so beautifully! That is, after we found the drain plug for the boat, LOL! There was a moment of suspense when they almost tipped over, but it only added to the fun and resulted in some adorable, candid laughter shots. The sunset over the lake provided a breathtaking conclusion to our session, the golden sun reflecting off the water as Hailey and Brett embraced in the boat.
From the dreamy lakeside photos to the fun picnic moments, the elegant resort shots, and the adventurous boat ride, Hailey and Brett’s engagement session was a beautiful blend of romance and playfulness. Each location brought out different facets of their relationship, creating a rich tapestry of memories that they will cherish forever. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this wonderful couple and capture their June wedding day next summer at Midway Camp in Volga, South Dakota.

The Fossom family’s Buffalo Ridge family session turned into the most magical Sunday afternoon adventure session at Talking Waters Campground / Lake Elsie, in Gary, South Dakota. The sun was shining, the lake was glistening, and the surroundings provided the perfect backdrop for capturing the essence of this charming family. What made this session particularly special was the deep-rooted connection the parents had to this location.
Both Mom and Dad grew up camping at Lake Elsie. Their childhood memories were interwoven with the beauty and serenity of this lakeside haven. It was heartwarming to see them return, now with their own young family. The joy and nostalgia in their eyes were evident as we reminisced together.
Buffalo Ridge Resort, with its rich history and rustic charm, added an extra layer of magic to the session. The resort’s adjacent Talking Waters Campground sprawling grounds and Lake Elsie provided a variety of scenic spots for photos. From the lush green meadows to the cute beach, every angle offered a unique and beautiful backdrop. Their may have been a shoe or two that ran through the beach’s muddy shoreline.
The lakeside photos were some of my favorites. The Fossom family, dressed in coordinating outfits, looked picture-perfect against the shimmering lake and vibrant greenery. The candid shots of the kids and the parents sharing a quiet moment by the water were truly heartwarming. These images captured the love and connection that bind this family together, and the timeless beauty of Lake Elsie at the Talking Waters Campground near Buffalo Ridge Resort only enhanced their charm.
Overall, the session included lots of fun, laughter, and a sense of coming home. It was an honor to capture these precious moments for the Fossom family and to witness their love for a place that holds so many cherished memories. I look forward to seeing this beautiful family return to Lake Elsie for years to come, continuing the tradition and creating new memories in this idyllic setting.

Introducing the Tschetter’s and their Joy Ranch Wedding that took place amidst the stunning rolling hills in Florence, South Dakota. They had the most magical, July wedding day. Thankfully, they had a mixture of cloudy and sun-kissed weather as well to pair with extremely humid 90 degree heat.
Meticulously, Katelyn planned the entire Joy Ranch wedding herself and both her and Raistlan’s families came together to help make her dream wedding vision come to life. Some highlights of the day were Raistlan and Katelyn’s private letter reading moments and secret portraits where Raistlan closed his eyes the entire time to not spoil their first look, which he wanted to save for their ceremony. It was such a fun way to ensure the couple shared some intimate moments together earlier that day. Katelyn custom designed the endearing aisle runner for the ceremony that showed a photo of her and her dad when he was holding her as a newborn and a few words saying, “Dad, of all the walks we have taken together, this one I will remember forever.”
Both Katelyn and Raistlan shared big emotional tears throughout the day, along with their parents. From their private letter readings, the blooper and sacred moments throughout their ceremony, and the first dances–everyone shed a few tears!
Katelyn and Raistlan chose a navy blue and gold theme for their Joy Ranch wedding day. Their loveable fur baby, Stella, also joined in celebrating the newlyweds on their big day. Moments by Danielle Nicole provided the photography and videography team. Sola wood flowers made pretty bouquets for the bride and her ladies. For a intimate touch, the bridal party consisted of mostly siblings and nieces/nephews. Katelyn’s wedding ring showcased a navy blue diamond versus a traditional white. Dj Doctor did an amazing job with the entertainment for both the ceremony and reception, while Pastor Steve Behrens married the couple.
The stunning bride’s dress and bridesmaids dresses designer is Morilee and bought from the Bridal and Tuxedo Shop in Watertown, South Dakota, along with the groom and groomsmen attire. Southtown hair – Kira Lenocker did a fantastic job with the hair and makeup. Scrumptious deserts and a gluten free wedding cake were made created by Little Red Greenhouse and Bakery. And lastly, the pretty invitation suite were designed and printed by Truly Engaging.
Raistlan and Katelyn’s love story began with a modern twist on a classic romance—over Facebook. Their first date at Señor Maxes in Watertown marked the start of a beautiful journey, and it’s become a cherished tradition for them to celebrate every anniversary at the same spot. This tradition is so meaningful that they decided to incorporate tacos into their wedding meal, a nod to that special first date. Raistlan’s proposal was perfectly tailored to Katelyn’s heart, taking place at her parents’ house, a place filled with her most cherished memories.
What truly binds Raistlan and Katelyn is their complementary personalities. Katelyn, with her love for meticulously planning details, finds her perfect balance in Raistlan’s calming presence. They share a love for making each other laugh, spending time with their families, and doting on their adorable baby Schnauzer, Stella. Their engagement session promises to capture these elements beautifully, with a focus on Stella, the deep love they share, and the enchanting backdrop of a sunset, all highlighted by a few outfit changes to showcase their vibrant personalities.

On a warm, hot July evening around 7pm, I got to photograph an absolutely breathtaking Chautauqua Park Family Session in Boulder, Colorado. The park was buzzing with life—families were out, other photographers were working, and the whole place had a vibrant, lively feel. The Dix family absolutely blew my expectations away and their session quite easily has become one of my favorite family sessions to date!
Even though the temperature was around the 80’s with humidity, it gave our photos a lovely warm glow. The evening sunlight kept popping out behind the clouds and also hiding, which created a unique mixture of everyone looking radiant from the sunny glow behind them, while also offering a more overcast look as well. There were still some wildflowers around, adding a touch of color and fun to our shots. They were a reminder of how beautiful summer is, even as it starts to wind down.
The iconic Flatirons make for a stunning backdrop, adding a sense of grandeur to our images. We used the open fields, winding trails, and cozy corners to capture different moments and emotions of the family. The kids played around, laughing and enjoying themselves, while the parents shared sweet, loving moments. The family’s choice of light, neutral-colored clothes added to the soft and airy feel of the photos. Truly, the Dix family dressed to impress and their edited imagery screamed with a light and airy photographer’s dream look.
Even with the many spectators and other photo sessions happening around us, we managed to focus on the family’s bond and their unique connection through fun and engaging prompts that allowed for a more genuine, behind the scenes look. By the end of our session, we all had so much fun!
View some of my favorite moments from their session below and keep reading after to see my pros and cons for shooting a summer session at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, Colorado and also some of my favorite locations to shoot at there!
Pros for A Chautauqua Park Family Session:
Cons for A Chautauqua Park Family Session:
Despite these minor drawbacks, Chautauqua Park is a fantastic place for a family photo session. The beauty of the surroundings and the vibrant energy of the park make it a memorable and rewarding experience.
Chautauqua Park in Boulder, Colorado, offers many picturesque spots perfect for capturing stunning photos. Here are some of the best locations within the park:
The open meadow with the iconic Flatirons in the background is a classic spot. The sweeping views and dramatic rock formations create a breathtaking backdrop, especially during golden hour.
The Chautauqua Trail offers beautiful scenery with a mix of open fields and wooded areas. The trail itself can add a sense of adventure and natural beauty to your photos, with plenty of spots to stop and shoot along the way.
The historic Ranger Cottage and the surrounding area provide a charming and rustic setting. The cottage itself is a lovely backdrop, and the nearby trees and paths add to the quaint atmosphere.
The outdoor amphitheater offers a unique and interesting location for photos. The stone steps and natural surroundings create a visually appealing setting, perfect for more structured or posed shots.
The Community House and its surrounding gardens are ideal for capturing more intimate and cozy photos. The gardens offer seasonal flowers and lush greenery, adding a vibrant and colorful element to your shots.
The picnic shelter area, with its large open space and nearby trees, provides a relaxed and family-friendly setting. It’s great for candid shots of families enjoying time together in a beautiful outdoor environment.
This trail leads to some of the most stunning views in the park. The higher elevation offers panoramic vistas of Boulder and the surrounding areas, perfect for wide-angle shots that capture the expansive beauty of the landscape.
For those willing to hike a bit, the Ski Jump Trail offers secluded and scenic spots away from the crowds. The trail’s varied terrain and beautiful vistas make it a fantastic choice for more adventurous photo sessions.
For early risers, the Sunrise Circle near the entrance of the park provides a spectacular view of the sunrise over the Flatirons. The soft morning light and serene atmosphere make it a magical spot for photos.
The historic cottages scattered throughout the park add a touch of charm and history to your photos. The unique architecture and quaint settings make them a lovely backdrop for more nostalgic and timeless shots.
Each of these spots offers its own unique charm and beauty, making Chautauqua Park a versatile and stunning location for any photo session.

A beautiful Minnesota backyard tent wedding set the scene to celebrate the newlyweds–Cody and Cassandra Ballengee. The wedding took place on Cassandra’s family farm near Madison, MN, under a grand 100-foot white tent. Rain graced the morning and early afternoon, but it cleared up just 30 minutes before the ceremony. The sun came out, making the day warm and beautiful.
Cody’s family traveled from Texas, and Cassandra’s family came from all over the U.S. It was an intimate gathering of 50 guests, creating a warm and close atmosphere.
Cassandra wore her mother’s wedding dress, adding a sentimental touch to the day. Her bouquet, crafted by Florals and Finds in Clear Lake, SD, was stunning. Cassandra also hand-designed the wedding decor and florals, turning the tent into a floral wonderland.
As the rain stopped and the ceremony began, the farm’s beauty shone through. The sun cast a golden glow as Cassandra and Cody exchanged vows, filling the day with joy and love. Tears were shed during their private vows. My associate, Amanda, and I tag teamed capturing the day and every photograph captured the warmth and happiness of the moment.
In the evening, we headed to a local fishing pond to capture more memories. The sunset was magnificent, with vibrant colors reflecting on the water. The golden light embraced Cassandra and Cody, making every shot a testament to their love and the beautiful day.
Photographing Cassandra and Cody’s wedding was filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments, all framed by nature’s perfect timing.

Kallan and Chris’s wedding at the Goss Opera House in Watertown, SD, created a celebration marked by elegance and simplicity. The wedding decor featured lush greenery with white and ivory accents, creating a timeless and sophisticated atmosphere. Kallan wore an absolutely breathtaking ivory dress. The bridesmaids dressed in sleek black gowns by Azazie, while the groomsmen donned stylish suits by Michael Kors, completed with black ties. This refined color palette and elegant style perfectly complement the historic charm of the Goss Opera House. During the ceremony, a string quartet played the most beautiful melodies. They had family join them in celebration from all over the United States.
There were so many, many unique moments handcrafted by both Chris and Kallan. All of these moments weaved together not only their individual skills and love story, but also the love of generations who came before them. Many of Kallan’s details included heirloom items passed down from her mother and grandmothers, which made capturing her thoughtful details so fun. Kallan and his groomsmen spent countless hours composing music to serenade Kallan during their ceremony, which brought many tears to the eyes of everyone hearing the breathtaking song, and also during the couple’s first dance and remaining part of the reception. Every moment weaved together touches from past love stories and their own to design the most intricate day celebrating their decade of friendship.
Kallan and Chris met during their undergraduate studies at NSU in 2012, and their first impressions were marked by an immediate attraction to each other’s souls. Their first date was a cozy visit to a coffee house on campus, setting the stage for their deep friendship to form. Chris proposed to Kallan on his birthday at Canyon Lake in Rapid City, shortly after introducing her to his grandparents—a moment that made the occasion even more special.
They share a playful habit of giving each other nicknames, with Chris affectionately calling Kallan “Duchess.” This reflects their fun-loving nature and tendency to create new words together. Both are musicians, competitive, animal lovers, and avid snackers, and they compliment each other out perfectly.
When asked what they love most about each other, they said they deeply appreciate each other’s company and love how they motivate each other to achieve their best. Their favorite activities include traveling, golfing, bowling, watching movies, and simply being together. As they look forward to their wedding day, the most exciting part for them is finally marrying the love of their lives.
The couple carefully selected a talented team of vendors to bring their vision to life. Betsy Fjelland coordinated the day as the wedding planner on behalf of The Goss Opera House, and did a fantastic job as always. Russ Hadden captured their video, while my team (Moments by Danielle Nicole) created the photography imagery. Herb Cleveland, the groom’s grandfather, officiated the wedding, adding a personal touch to their ceremony.
Blu Salon and Spa did a fantastic job with hair and makeup. Dakota Giftware Supply Inc designed stunning florals, and DJ Henry, along with live music from the groomsmen, creating the most lively reception entertainment. Walmart Bakery crafted the wedding cake and desserts, while Mavericks served yet another amazingly scrumptious meal. Zola provided the invitations. This talented team truly made Kallan and Chris’s Goss Opera House wedding a beautifully memorable event.

If you just got engaged, here are 10 things to do after getting engaged! But first off, congratulations on your engagement! As a photographer who has captured countless love stories, I’m thrilled to share some insights on the next steps after you’ve said “yes!” This is an incredibly exciting time, and there are some important things to consider that will help make your journey to the altar smooth and joyful.
First and foremost, take a moment to bask in the joy with your partner. This is a special milestone, and it deserves a celebration. Whether it’s a romantic dinner, a weekend getaway, or simply a quiet evening together, savor this moment before the whirlwind of planning begins.
Before announcing your engagement on social media, share the news with your closest family and friends. They’ll appreciate hearing it directly from you rather than finding out online. This also gives you a chance to see their reactions and share in their excitement.
Ensure your engagement ring fits perfectly by getting it sized. Additionally, securing insurance for your ring is crucial to protect against loss, theft, or damage. It’s a small step that offers significant peace of mind. Most insurances have a free ring cleaning service every 6 months, so definitely do that and make sure to clean your ring right before your engagement session and wedding!
Discuss with your partner and decide on a potential wedding date or at least a range of dates. This decision will influence many of your subsequent planning steps, including venue selection and booking other key vendors like photographers. Picking a range of dates or a season you like best is KEY to ensuring your top two vendors (like venue and photographer) have a similar date open!
Start discussing your budget early. Knowing how much you’re willing to spend will help you make informed decisions and avoid financial stress. Consider all aspects of the wedding, including the photographer, venue, catering, and attire.
Begin drafting a preliminary guest list. Having an estimate of the number of guests will help you choose an appropriately sized venue and manage your budget more effectively. It’s easier to make adjustments to the guest list early on than later in the planning process.
If your budget allows, hiring a wedding planner can be incredibly beneficial. A planner can handle the logistics, recommend trusted vendors, and keep everything on track, allowing you to focus on enjoying your engagement.
CLICK HERE to download my free wedding planner guide!
Start gathering ideas for your wedding. As a photographer, I recommend creating a vision board with your favorite styles, themes, and color schemes. Platforms like Pinterest, wedding magazines, and blogs are fantastic resources. This will help communicate your vision to your photographer and other vendors.
An engagement photo shoot is a wonderful way to celebrate your engagement and get comfortable in front of the camera. These photos can be used for save-the-date cards, wedding websites, or simply as cherished keepsakes. It’s also a great opportunity to build a rapport with your photographer before the big day.
Finally, amidst all the planning, remember to enjoy being engaged. This period is a unique and special time in your life, so take moments to relax and relish in the excitement. Whether it’s date nights, engagement parties, or simply spending quality time together, make sure to appreciate this journey.
Planning a wedding is a beautiful adventure, and these steps will help you start on the right foot. As a photographer, I look forward to capturing the love and joy of this incredible time in your life. Happy planning!

This Madison Minnesota Engagement Session with Colby and Halie, the newest 2025 MBDN couple, turned into yet another breathtaking spring engagement session. I cannot wait to celebrate these two next spring in Madison, Minnesota.
For their engagement session, we started off the hour with some short and sweet portraits with their sweet babies. I am a huge advocate for including your kiddos in your engagement session, since they are such a big part of both your lives. After the kiddos took off exploring, we made some magic focused on just these two lovebirds. Madison’s Centennial Park made for the PERFECT spot for the first location. It has the prettiest line of trees which created the most magical lighting for their portraits. The area offered lots of shade and had the most perfect shade of greens!
After the kiddos took off with grandpa, Halie and Colby had fun dancing and twirling. We got the most adorable blanket photos! During our hour together was so fun! Halie and Colby are both so laid back–they made my job SO easy! Every time they looked at each other, I could tell how much they love one another, truly. We took off to finish our session at the old Skelly gas station in Madison, requested by Halie. The Skelly was such a fun and unique way to end their Madison, Minnesota engagement session. We were able to take some creative shots there–eeekkk!!
All in all, I cannot wait to celebrate these two next spring on their wedding day!

After celebrating their magical intimate backyard wedding day, it’s with great excitement that we introduce the newlywed couple, Ethan and Karen Ruby. Their love story is as unique as it is heartwarming, filled with moments of laughter, shared passions, and a deep commitment to creating a family.
Hosted at Ethan’s parents’ family farm, the setting provided a rustic and cozy backdrop for their special day. The ceremony was particularly touching as Karen shared her custom vows, not only to Ethan but also to his children, Kori and Will. Promising to be a dedicated partner to Ethan and a loving bonus mom to his kids, Karen’s heartfelt words left a lasting impression on everyone present.
One of the most memorable moments was the first look. It wasn’t just a private moment between Ethan and Karen; it included Kori, Ethan’s daughter, who walked with Karen and had her own first look with her dad. This touching inclusion highlighted the deep bond forming within their new family. The day was a blend of intimate moments and family connections, making it feel like a heartfelt reunion of family enjoying one another in celebration of Ethan and Karen’s new chapter in their love story. Despite the rain that sprinkled throughout the day, the weather only added to the charm and intimacy of the occasion, with guests enjoying the cozy atmosphere.
Another favorite and unique moment during the day happened to be their ceremony. Ditching the traditional chairs and seating arrangements for guests, the couple had their guests stand in a circle surrounding them, while they said their vows to one another. Because of this, the atmosphere made it feel like the guests were taking part in saying “I Do” alongside the couple with their support. Due to several guests and family members requiring an interpreter, it only increased the feeling of inclusion. It brought tears to my eyes to see how much Ethan and Karen value their friends and family and planned their wedding day around everyone else’s needs.
The reception reflected Ethan and Karen’s shared love for hunting and the outdoors. The decor was thoughtfully crafted, featuring shotgun shells as part of the table landscape and elegant drapery in Ethan’s dad’s shed, creating a beautiful and personal environment. Instead of a typical reception party, Ethan and Karen chose to focus on spending meaningful time with their guests. Homemade food added a comforting and communal touch to the celebration, making everyone feel at home. The entire day was a testament to their values and love, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
Karen’s journey to love began when she moved back to South Dakota. Fate had a plan in store when she reconnected with her cousin Audrey, who happened to be friends with Ethan. It wasn’t long before the two were introduced, and a beautiful relationship blossomed from that first meeting.
Ethan’s proposal to Karen was as memorable as it was unconventional. The couple shares a love for the great outdoors, and it was during a deer hunting trip that Ethan decided to pop the question. As they were getting ready by the vehicle before heading into the field, Ethan turned to Karen and asked her to marry him. The moment was made even more special with the presence of Ethan’s daughter, Kori, who not only witnessed the proposal but also had the important task of picking out the engagement ring. It was a perfect blend of their shared passions and family bond.
When asked what they love most about each other, Ethan humorously mentioned Karen’s “outstanding personality.” Beyond the humor, their relationship is built on a foundation of shared sense of humor and mutual respect. Karen admires Ethan’s role as a father, cherishing the moments she gets to watch him with his children, Kori and Will. His dedication to being a great dad is one of the many reasons she loves him deeply.
Ethan and Karen enjoy a variety of activities together, but their favorite is spending time with Ethan’s children and hunting. These moments of togetherness, whether it’s the thrill of the hunt or the joy of family time, are what strengthen their bond and create lasting memories.
The Rubys’ love story is a testament to finding joy in the everyday moments and the power of two families becoming one. We wish Ethan and Karen a lifetime of happiness, adventure, and love.

Picture this: a The Element + Goss Opera House wedding in downtown Watertown, South Dakota in April 2024. But here’s the twist – instead of sunny skies and gentle breezes, we’re talking about a day filled with strong winds, dark clouds, and heavy rain. Yep, Mother Nature decided to throw us a curveball. But you know what? It only made the whole thing more special.
Despite the wild weather, the scene was straight out of a fairy tale. The colors – blush, white, neutrals, with pops of black – set the stage for a dreamy, elegant affair. And let me tell you, the bride was an absolute vision. She rocked a gorgeous gown by Ellie Stone, and her shoes? Perfection. Her groom, equally dashing in a meticulously tailored tuxedo from Trendz, stood by her side with the absolute best attitude all day.
Hitch Studio coordinated The Element + Goss Opera House wedding and planned the entire day and everything went off without a hitch, no pun intended. The Goss Opera House made for a stunning backdrop for a reception space. Meanwhile, we spent the first half of the morning a The Element, which is a newer rental space in Watertown, SD. Both spaces are designed for more intimate weddings. I can attest to both rental spaces having fantastically sweet coordinators who would do anything to ensure weddings turn out perfect.
Salon LUX did a fantastic job on the bride’s makeup and hairstyle to make her whole look come together. Breanna from Flowers on Main created absolutely breathtaking florals for all the set ups and bridal florals. Becky made some to-die-for french macaroons from Becky’s French Macaroons, while Lisa from Charcuterie Element filled our tummy’s with a scrumptious charcuterie snack for lunch.
The bride’s nails? Nailed it. And her jewelry? Talk about fancy – a custom ring and earrings from Crevier Jewelry that were absolutely STUNNING. Oh, and can we take a moment for the invitation suite by Hitch? It was so pretty, it practically begged you to RSVP yes.
Despite the weather trying its best to rain on our parade (literally), love was in the air. Inside The Element and The Goss Opera House, where the festivities took place, it felt like nothing else mattered. The storm outside couldn’t dim the warmth and joy radiating from everyone involved.
It was a reminder that love conquers all – even when the weather’s not cooperating. It showed us that sometimes, the most magical moments happen when things don’t go according to plan. And hey, isn’t that what love’s all about? Finding beauty in the unexpected, and celebrating it with all your heart.

Steven Mady and Kayla Anderson’s Gathered Oaks wedding day was nothing short of magical. They tied the knot on November 18, 2023. Vowing to love each other for the rest of their lives, the Mady’s celebrated their big day amongst family and friends at Gathered Oaks in Alexandria, Minnesota. Though the couple had hoped for some snow and ice on the water, they could not have had a better November day with full sunshine and 50 degree weather for their outdoor ceremony.
If I were to describe their wedding day in three words, I would say: joyful, intimate, and fun. Our team capturing the Mady’s wedding photos and film with our paradise collection had SO MUCH fun all day. Steven and Kayla truly are such a special couple and fully trusted us to create some magic with them, which led to many, MANY wonderful shots we cannot wait to share.
Now, time to introduce the lovebirds…
In fact, they both hilariously will admit, “we didn’t like each other at first”, when they met for the first time at the Crystal Springs Rodeo near Clear Lake, South Dakota. They met through mutual friends and their first date actually ended up being an accident. They had made plans with two of their friends to go out one evening. At the last minute, their friends canceled. Steven and Kayla decided to go anyway. Who knew eating some “awful pizza” would open up the start of their love story.
According to Kayla, “Steven & I met throughout high school as our schools faced each other in sporting events. We actually had a strong dislike for each other until 2020. I reached out to him as I knew he was going through a hard time in his life. One of my very good friends from high school (AJ), his girlfriend, Kori, and I went boating with Steven. Shortly after, Steven and I tried to get AJ & Kori to go out to eat with us at Zorbaz in Spicer, but they ended up being unable to come. So, there we were.. our first unofficial date with just the two of us. Then, the rest is history!!!”
Stevens favorite memories of a shared moment occurred before they started dating. They were boating with their mutual friends AJ and Kori. Steven thought it would be funny to drive the boat a short distance away from where Kori and Kayla jumped in the water and they did indeed have to swim back to the boat. In Kayla’s words, “Now doesn’t that sound like an Anderson prank!” Kayla’s favorite memory of Steven was the time he willingly dressed up as the man in the yellow hat from Curious George while she dressed up as George for Halloween.
The Mady’s love to travel and spend time with family. They have two fur baby pups (Maci & Oliver). Steven is very quiet and shy, very opposite of Kayla, so the saying opposites attract is true in their case!
Kayla told me, “We were celebrating the 4th of July with our friends Hudson and Madi. Hudson was continuously annoying us about going to take a photo on the dock. Annoyed, I finally gave in (it was almost 11pm and I was tired HA!). Steven stood behind me, and when I turned around, he was down on one knee asking if I would marry him! I was so excited, happy, and completely shocked. It was a perfect 4th celebration!”
When asked about what types of feelings she wanted their day to incorporate, Kayla said, “Fall/beginning of winter. A crisp breeze, crunchy leaves, or even better…. a bit of snow. Everyone cozy in their blankets for the outdoor ceremony.” While the Mady’s definitely got the fall, crisp breeze, crunchy leaves, and coziness they were hoping for, we did miss out on a bit of snow. HOWEVER, for their Gathered Oaks wedding they had full sunshine all day, plus 50 degrees, typically unheard of for a Minnesota mid-November season. A “rustic, simple, and nature filled” vibe is absolutely the vibe the couple got for their big day.
As a vendor, I can definitely confirm they made the best choice and their Gathered Oaks wedding truly allowed Kayla and Steven’s personalities to shine with the lake and various things this venue offers to its couples. Together, the couple shares a love for camping, ice fishing, dirt track racing, spending time with their fur-babies, and being bums at home! Luckily for them, their venue included a lakeside view and dock, so we definitely made time to incorporate those things into their big day! After the ceremony and receiving line, we had just enough time to get 10 minutes of sunset photos and I KNEW we just had to race down to the dock to take them since the couple spends so much time on and around lakes.
The men wore a black button up with black pants from Amazon, with deep red suspenders, a bow tie, and a customized hat. The hats were a unique accessory that made for fun bridal party photos. In addition, the bridesmaids attire consisted of wearing deep red, floor length dresses. One super fun detail for the girls was their wearing of corsages versus bouquets, which turned out extremely pretty.
Steven’s favorite colors are red and black and Kayla loves gold. For their florals, they chose a combination of pampas grass, bunny tails, and wheat. A very rustic and simplistic look that pulled together their color palette and decor.! In terms of Kayla’s bouquet, it consisted of a similar mixture minus the wheat, created by Kayla herself, which turned out beautifully. One amazing factor about having their Gathered Oaks wedding was that their venue already is filled with ornamental wheat grass looking plants so the florals and natural scenery blended together so well.
In their “get to know us” blog questionnaire, Kayla mentioned, “Throughout the three years Steven and I have been together, we have mourned the loss of far too many amazing people. Our wedding day would be incomplete without their photographs near our hearts.” Due to this, they had a wonderful fireplace set up with multiple photos of those dear to their hearts that are no longer on earth. We made sure to get lots of film and photos of their lovely memory photo set up.
It was an absolutely gorgeous veil with a beautiful headpiece attached to it. It really pulled Kayla’s entire outfit together and definitely made me tear up a bit while her sweet mama pinned it into her hair, with the help of one of our second shooters, Dakota. Family heirlooms are hands-down one of the best things you can incorporate into a wedding day and we LOVED Kayla’s choice of her “something old”.
The moment Steven and Kayla interlocked cute locks and walked to the lake from their ceremony to toss their keys away forever as their unity ceremony symbol captured everyone in the crowd. What an intimate moment for them and a unique unity ceremony! The fact that this venue offers a gorgeous lake view at sunset is one of my favorite parts of shooting a Gathered Oaks wedding.
One, Kayla happens to be my (Danielle’s) husband’s cousin. In Kayla’s own words, “We are family <3”. Also, Kayla said “We chose to work with you because of your amazing personality, your ability to make our photos look natural, light, bright, and airy!” As their vendor, one unique idea we chose to contribute to the Mady’s big day was making the decision to add on an additional shooter, free of charge to the couple, so we could get some absolutely EPIC drone shots of their golden hour, sunset ceremony. The shot flying over the open water lake towards the ceremony spot under the trees with the venue in the background was hands down SO worth it.

A Watertown SD wedding in November can go one of two ways: complete blizzard with closed roads or a delightful fall day. The Moeller’s lucked out with the latter of the two. On November 4, 2023, Scott and Lindsey tied the knot. They had the most perfect weather. As any South Dakotan would say, “today would be perfect if it wasn’t windy.” Despite the wind, the sunshine and non-freezing temps made for a day to remember.
After some getting ready shots at the salon, we headed across town to create some epic Terry Redlin Fine Arts Center wedding portraits. Afterwards, the church offered the most magical light beaming through it’s stained glass windows and it easily became one of my favorite ceremonies to date. A few golden hour portraits later and we headed to their reception venue Second Street Station to enjoy some yummy food and dance the night away. Trust me, EVERYONE danced the night away and it was such a fun environment.
They then matched on Tinder and of course it was a match made in Heaven. Scott loves to fish and, because of that, Lindsey started to enjoy it as well. So Scott proposed to her at the same spot they had our first fishing date and where she met his parents, isn’t that just the cutest, Notebook-type of love story ever?!! Scott and Lindsey are not only a married couple, but dog parents to a poodle named Layla and oh my gosh she is the cutest!
Scott’s favorite memory of their relationship is, in Lindsey words, “From when we were in MX and there was a Silent Disco one of the nights. Typically, being first on the dance floor and trying something new in public, we would be a little more skeptical. However, Scott brought me on the dance floor and we were in sync with each other through the headphones and while the crowd started to join around us and on the outside, all Scott could see was him and I in that moment enjoying each other’s presence no matter who was watching.”
On the flip side, Lindsey’s favorite shared memory is: “Our first fishing date. This was my first time fishing for years and I was determined to act like I knew what I was doing. I caught a Northern and after Scott took the picture and removed the fish from the hook, he told me I could throw it back in the water. I paused for a moment not really knowing what to do with this slimy fish in my hand and my fingers wrapped around its head, so like any typical person would do when they tell you to throw something, I chucked the fish back in the water. Scott looked at me and he goes “TOSS THE FISH ” don’t throw it! I was laughing while he looked at me for a moment. But after a few seconds his face settled into patience, laughter, and admiration.”
During our timeline planning meeting for her Watertown SD wedding, Lindsey let me know her bridesmaids were not going to have a traditional bouquet. Instead, they would carry medal rings with an arrangement of flowers that Lindsey herself arranged and created. They were so unique and I LOVE all of Lindsey’s DIY touches for her big day.
One of my favorite unique touches that stood out of their big day was hands down sneaking Lindsey away, at her bridesmaid’s requests, to take a few photos near the glass windows in the stairwell. Due to it being a tad too dark, we decided to go up a flight to the next floor and WOW! The light, the windows, the staircase, the BRIDE, ya’ll…it was TOO PERFECT. I love those photos and I am so thankful for brides like Lindsey who are always up to sneak away from 5 minutes to take those “hidden shots” most people wouldn’t.
Oftentimes, ceremonies can seem repetitive, but not Scott and Lindsey’s. Not only did Grace Lutheran Church have the most spectacular colored glass windows with the most beautiful light beaming through them, but there were so many special moments weaved throughout the ceremony between the couple and their loved ones. From Lindsey’s sister tears of joy and attempts to not look at Scott to avoid making him laugh to Lindsey’s sudden burst of laughter and joy during their unity portion of their ceremony that made me giggle a tad too on the side. All in all, it was a lovely ceremony.
I feel so abundantly blessed I met Lindsey through my last full-time job position at Wurth Electronics. From the moment I met her, I could tell people gravitated towards Lindsey’s bright, cheerful soul. She is kind, thoughtful, and always ready for a good laugh. I love her bubbly spirit and she is always up for the next adventure, and that is what I love most about her. Capturing her Watertown SD wedding was a dream for me!
According to Lindsey, “Danielle has such a kind heart! She is patient, easy going, flexible, and makes any session fun! I appreciate Danielle going above and beyond for her clients by providing so many items to prep for your engagement session and wedding!”

The Chamberlin’s fall Redeemed Farm Scandia, MN wedding took all their guest’s breath away. The sun shone brightly and filled the farm with the most beautiful crisp fall air. Kirsten and Zebulon could not have asked for a better October wedding on October 22nd, 2021.
Undeniably, the Chamberlin’s Redeemed Farm Scandia MN Wedding included tons of unique photo opportunities. We captured so many unique ideas, such as taking photos with Zeb’s 1965 mustang he has worked on for years, taking some photos of the venue’s 17 hand black stallion, and also a romantic photo from the old barn’s hay loft window overlooking the property and Zeb & Kirsten dancing below.
Redeemed Farm is a “premier destination to host the finest events, Redeemed Farm is a white barn wedding venue, vineyard and farm estate on 40 acres in the heart of the St Croix Valley MN wine country – just 35 minutes from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St Paul” (description taken from their website).
Redeemed Farm is absolutely stunning. In spite of the travel distance between my studio and this venue, I adore working at this venue because of the extensive spaces there are to get creative and make magical photos and films for my couples. Seriously, the landscaping, no matter the weather, offers couples endless options for getting the photo that will be plastering your wall for the rest of your lives together. Moreover, the venue owners and staff are delightful and drop everything to meet any need you may have.
As shown in the photos in this blog, I have SO MANY favorite spots. The best part of this venue is no matter what the weather is, you can be sure you will have plenty of space to work with. Some of my favorite spots are the Vineyard Lawn, behind the Stable Chapel, and inside the French-Inspired Bridal Suite. Grabbing a photo from inside the Historic Barn Loft looking down on the property from the large loft window is my most favorite wedding photo I have ever taken!
Redeemed Farm has 3 beautiful ceremony locations that you can choose from to customize your special day. This venue’s capacity is 175 people guests.
Venue Hours: 9:00 am 1st arrivals and venue opens. Party concludes at 10:00 with guests departed by 10:30. The venue will remain open until 11:00 for vendor/decor removal. You have exclusive use of the farmstead. Currently, they book weddings for Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Rehearsal: Rehearsal is held offsite or the day of which is the most popular.
Additional Hours: Our hours are set by the city, so we are not able to add on any time to allow your event to go later into the evening. If you want to keep the party going, Running Aces in Forest Lake is a great option for an after party or Stillwater which is 20 minutes from the vineyard & farmstead!
Venue Management: Redeemed Farm’s Venue Director and team remain on-site from the moment you arrive until all guests/vendors are departed and to be on point for any venue needs. We require a professional Day of Coordinator to manage your timeline and details and be the point of contact throughout the day. A day at Redeemed Farm is easy, stress free and fun!
Catering Choices: We have a list of 7 proven Catering Companies that you are able to select from that offer great food, style and service.

Any couple who wants a peaceful, farm-style wedding with a very elegant and sophisticated touch should check out Redeemed Farm. The open space of this venue, plus the touch of new and old architecture truly make this venue one of the best Minnesota has to offer, in my opinion. Any couple wanting lots of gorgeous outdoor scenery in their photos would adore the options Redeemed Farm has to offer them.
We have a vetted list of providers to choose from to insure a great experience for you and your guests:
Tables and Chairs: Redeemed Farm provides and sets up all tables and chairs for ceremony, reception and dance.

Parking: We have a large parking area and attendant provided. We also have a golf cart to help transport guests if needed. The farmstead is fully accessible. We are unable to have overnight parking so rides should be coordinated for all attending.

Purchased in late 2013, this 1902 farmstead restoration has been a labor of love. Upon purchasing the farm we felt a strong calling to share it with others. In 2016, our farmstead became part of a love story called Redeemed Farm.
Redeemed Farm is an aspirational wedding venue aspiring to provide a vineyard farmstead wedding experience based upon unparalleled excellence, significance and love… giving couples a special space to make their most meaningful commitment to each other in marriage.
Jeff grew up in the city and led Diversified Graphics, a family owned printing firm for over 30 years. I grew up in the country on a small horse farm and spent 30+ years in premium brand retail running sales, events and service initiatives. We were both drawn to a simpler life in the country. We appreciate the values the rural and farm landscape stand for – values of hard work, artisan production, family, community, creativity, simplicity and faith.
We’ve both been on journeys, many hard, that have been rooted in learning and trusting in the faithfulness of God, His saving grace, His hope and His redemption. We met on a mission trip to Haiti after suffering significant losses in our lives. I was on a Healing Haiti mission trip with a women’s team from church and Jeff was leading a Healing Haiti vision trip with a different church. Ours is a story of Gods Redemption and the reason the farm is named Redeemed. If our stories can help others it would be a blessing for God’s glory.
In addition to sharing the farm for weddings and receptions, we work with local churches and worship musicians to have nights of worship in the barn. We also use the farm to host date nights for couples to strengthen marriages and events… areas near and dear to our hearts.
**please note, most of this information was taken from Redeemed Farm’s website in 2023, so please check their website for more accurate and updated information.

Kayla and Steven’s summer engagement session turned out perfectly, in every regard. Steven and Kayla traveled from Glenwood, Minnesota, to Clear Lake, South Dakota, for me to capture their summer engagement session. We had such a lovely time together and enjoyed some yummy tacos before their session to catch up on all of their wedding plans. The weather was absolutely perfect with a slight breeze to keep us cool, and even the mosquitos behaved! I am so excited to capture their wedding day this coming November at Gathered Oaks in Alexandria, Minnesota. We are hoping for some flying snowflakes, or at least Kayla is.
These two met in high school while attending different sporting events. Ironically, in Kayla’s own words, “We actually had a strong dislike for each other until 2020. I reached out to him as I knew he was going through a hard time in his life. One of my very good friends from high school (AJ), his girlfriend, Kori, and I went boating with Steven.” Shortly after, Kayla and Steven tried to get their friends AJ & Kori to go out to eat with them, but ended up on what would be their unexpected, first date alone. Zorbaz in Spicer, Minnesota set the scene for the start of their relationship.
As a couple, they love to travel and spend time with family. They have two fur babies–Maci and Oliver. Ironically, Steven is very quiet and shy, while Kayla is the complete opposite. Together, they become a power couple. During Kayla and Steven’s summer engagement session, anyone would notice how big Kayla’s heart is, while how tender Steven showers her with affection.
Steven’s favorite memory of their love story is one afternoon when they and their friends AJ & Kori went boating. Trying to be funny, Steven told the girls to jump into the water, then drove away. Unfortunately, the girls had to swim back to the boat. Too funny! While Kayla’s favorite memory is when Steven willing dressed up as the man in the yellow hat from Curious George, for Halloween, and she dressed up as…well…George.
These two were just way too much fun! Clearly, we got some of my favorite engagement photos ever and I am absolutely positive they are going to bless my camera even more on their big day. I can’t wait for their wedding!

No words describe this dreamy summer maternity session of my dear friend Dakota and her adorable, growing family in Watson, Minnesota at their family’s ranch. Photography is a job that can so easily burn you out. Not only do you play endless amounts of roles within this business (so very thankful for my tax lady!), but sometimes it feels like you will never catch up on everything. It’s the beauty and curse of having your own business. The sky is the limit on what you can do and where you want to go next. On top of that, trying to be creative all the time is truly taxing.
Then you have sessions and moments like this dreamy summer maternity session in particular with the most amazing clients-turned-friends. Somehow, your cup of creativity is filled back up again. I’m a little sad it took so long for Dakota and I to meet. I guarantee we would have made great friends in high school. But, I am so glad she DM’d me last year for a “coffee date”.
She’s an amazing photographer herself (check her out: Kota Rae Photography). These photos show just a snippet of who Dakota is and how much her family loves her. We all cannot wait to meet Baby B and I’m secretly hoping our boys grow up to become best friends. I am endlessly thankful for Dakota and all the joy she brings to life and to those around her.
Dakota brings so much life and joy to those around her. She invited me out to her family’s ranch near Watson, Minnesota. We took the most epic photos surrounded by the prettiest of wildflowers and winding river. Hands down one of the prettiest places I have shot at yet. We need more places on earth like the Weber Ranch. There would be so much more peace on earth. I’m hoping there’s a version just like it in Heaven to explore.

All I can say is WOW! The newlywed Mr. & Mrs. Straus has the most PERFECT, spring-time wedding at Riverhaven Events Center. It was warm, we had sunshine, and a breeze to keep us cool. Down to the smallest of decor details, anyone could clearly see how much time Darby spent putting together the most magical day. All in all, Tim and Darby had the most magical wedding day.
Tim & Darby met in college at NDSU, through Tim’s twin brother. They enjoy spending time together and with their nieces and nephews. It’s quite apparent for anyone who watches this couple that they truly love one another deeply and they serve one another with servant’s hearts.
Some special unique events were a special dance for Darby’s grandma RoseMary, some amazing speeches that made the building fill with laughter, and two lovely solos sang by a bridesmaid and friend during their ceremony unity moment and first dance. Every little reception detail was simply device and their floral arrangement for their ceremony was absolutely breathtaking. But above all, my favorite moment were the speeches given by family members. Oh, how I wish I had recorded them! All in all, their wedding at Riverhaven Events Center was simply stunning.

On March 6, 2023, Terry & Sarah Shinabarger tied the knot at their Meadow Barn at Country Orchard wedding in Harrisburg, SD. Snowflakes that turned into one of the biggest blizzards of 2023 filled their winter wedding day. Behind the lens, the snow turned into an absolutely epic background.
Terry and Sarah met through mutual friends. Despite the great distance between Sioux Falls, SD where Sarah lived and Bison, SD where Terry lives and farms, they somehow made the miles between them strengthen their relationship stronger than ever. Their love story truly exhibits an overwhelming amount of grace.
There are so my favorite moments that made their day unique. From Sarah getting ready with her daughters to Terry and Sarah’s teary-eyed first look. Their videographer ZSomething Films created a fun short film to recap their relationship from footage they took the NIGHT BEFORE to play during their ceremony. Rebecca did an amazing job with the film. There was not a dry eye in sight! It truly became such a inspiring testimony of God’s redeeming love and His hand in their relationship.
During their ceremony, they created a sand frame with Sarah’s children to symbolize the unity of their family as one. Like, oh my heart! The rest of the day was filled with much love and many snowflakes.
Check out ZSomething Film’s teaser video of this day by CLICKING THIS LINK. This wedding was shot as an associate for ZSomething Films & R. Dewitt Photography.
Often times, we vendors see a lot of behind the scenes and it is rare to find a venue that operates to SERVE couples versus fill their pockets and just “do their job”. I adore family-run venues because they truly build their businesses to serve others. Family-operated businesses are so fun to give back to myself, as a fellow vendor, because both our businesses feed our families and we need each other to keep doing so. The staff and history behind this venue in particular truly are nothing less than amazing to work with.
Something that I consider specifically special about weddings at the Meadow Barn at Country Orchard wedding venue is the scenic surroundings. Beyond the barn’s enchanting interiors, the Meadow Barn offers breathtaking outdoor spaces. Exchange vows under the open sky, surrounded by the beauty of nature. The expansive meadows provide endless opportunities for memorable photos, and the tranquil orchard adds a touch of serenity to your celebration.
When it comes to rustic elegance and countryside charm, few venues can compare to the Meadow Barn at Country Orchard in Harrisburg, South Dakota. Nestled amidst picturesque landscapes, this enchanting barn has become a sought-after destination for weddings, special events, and gatherings that seek the perfect blend of rustic beauty and modern amenities.
For couples seeking a wedding venue that combines natural beauty with a touch of nostalgia, the Meadow Barn is the ideal choice. The barn’s spacious interior can accommodate large wedding parties, and its high vaulted ceilings adorned with twinkling fairy lights create a magical atmosphere for your special day. Whether you dream of an intimate ceremony or a grand celebration, the Meadow Barn offers a versatile canvas for your vision.
“The Meadow Barn is a South Dakota wedding venue nestled on over 50 acres of historic apple orchards. If you’re looking to celebrate the best day of your life, in a naturally beautiful venue that doesn’t require a lot of “extra” decorating, The Meadow Barn was designed with you in mind. You’ll love our transparent pricing, open vendor options, and an ideal location with many amenities your guests will love too.”
Whether you’re envisioning a wedding, a corporate retreat, or a family gathering, the Meadow Barn at Country Orchard in Harrisburg, SD, offers a unique and unforgettable experience. Its rustic charm and modern amenities make it a venue that caters to all your needs while immersing you in the serene beauty of the South Dakota countryside. If you’re looking to create lasting memories in a picturesque setting, look no further than the Meadow Barn at Country Orchard.
While the Meadow Barn retains its rustic charm, it’s not lacking in modern amenities. Your guests will appreciate the convenience of ample parking, climate control, and comfortable restroom facilities. This ensures that your event is as enjoyable as it is beautiful.
This venue offers three different wedding spaces: The Meadow Barn, The Veranda, and their newest addition the Beaver Creek Chapel.

Jake and Brittni’s Abella Weddings and Events wedding at the end of October was a perfect blend of elegance and charm, with the French countryside vibe that made the day feel magical. The picturesque venue, nestled on 19 acres of beautiful Minnesota land, offered a stunning backdrop for their big day, making it an unforgettable fall celebration.
The day began with capturing the intricate details on the porch of the venue’s charming cottage. Brittni and her bridesmaids enjoyed the relaxing morning in the bridal suite inside the cottage, getting ready and preparing for the emotional moments ahead. Meanwhile, Jake and his groomsmen got dressed in the rustic granary shed, offering a cozy, laid-back setting for the guys.
One of the sweetest parts of the day was Brittni’s first look with her mom and bridesmaids. The bridal suite buzzed with excitement and emotion as Brittni revealed her stunning gown, sparking joyful tears. Next came her special first look with her dad, which was full of tender moments. Brittni gifted her dad a custom tie, featuring a baby photo of her with him on the back. As she showed him the photo after their first look, there wasn’t a dry eye in sight.
Brittni and Jake’s first look was equally touching. Taking place behind Abella’s historic barn, the two shared a quiet moment filled with joy, anticipation, and a few tears as they saw each other for the first time on their wedding day. The emotional moment set the tone for the rest of their celebration.
Then, it was time for some fun bridal party portraits. Against the backdrop of Abella’s scenic landscapes, the group’s energy was infectious. Everyone was having a great time, and it made for some incredible photos that captured both the love and the fun of the day.
The ceremony took place in the beautiful Willows. It includes a private area framed by lush greenery, offering a serene and intimate atmosphere. With close family and friends gathered, Jake and Brittni exchanged vows in a heartwarming ceremony that left everyone in awe of their love.
After the ceremony and family photos, we took advantage of the stunning sunset and ventured out for some sunset photos. During that time, the crowd headed to the patio area behind the historic barn for social hour. The golden-hour light was absolutely magical, creating breathtaking images of the newlyweds that they’ll cherish forever.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the celebration moved inside the French country hall for the reception. The hall’s rustic elegance, paired with the couple’s decor, created a warm, inviting atmosphere. Guests enjoyed a fun-filled evening of heartfelt toasts, dinner, and dancing, making it a truly unforgettable celebration of Jake and Brittni’s love.
OVerall, their October wedding was the perfect combination of romance, nature, and celebration. Truly, it was a day full of memorable moments at Abella Weddings & Events that perfectly reflected their love story.

Preparing for an in-home newborn session can feel daunting when just arriving home from the hospital with a newborn, plus adding in any other children, pets, and family members. But trust me, the below steps will help you prepare for every step!
Welcoming a newborn into the family is a magical time filled with love, excitement, and cherished moments. At our luxury studio, we believe every family deserves an in-home newborn photography and videography experience that reflects these precious early days in a way that is personal, elegant, and effortless. When you book with us, we bring a full-service approach that guides you through every detail, ensuring your home and family are prepared to create truly timeless keepsakes.
Here’s a complete guide to preparing for your session, so you and your little one can relax and enjoy the experience.
To make the most of your newborn session, we recommend choosing a few key areas in your home with abundant natural light. Ideal spaces typically include the nursery, master bedroom, and main living area, as these areas often have spacious, light-filled settings. Begin by tidying these rooms, removing everyday clutter (I promise if you shove it all into your closet or on the non-photographed side of the room you will NOT receive any judgement from me!) so the focus remains solely on you and your family’s unique bond. Our team will work with the natural beauty of your home, utilizing soft, airy backgrounds to create refined, artful images that feel warm and intimate.
Clearing off surfaces can also make a tremendous difference. For instance, nightstands and dressers look best with just a lamp or a simple, elegant item like a small plant or flower arrangement. Clean, decluttered spaces allow us to capture the essence of your family without any visual distractions.
Lighting is a key component in newborn photography and videography. To achieve that soft, luxurious look that natural light brings, we recommend turning off all artificial lights, including lamps and overhead lights. This prevents any harsh shadows or color casting, letting the light flow in naturally.
Open all curtains and blinds, allowing the beauty of the daylight to illuminate your spaces. If possible, clean your windows beforehand to let in maximum light and ensure clarity in every shot. Our professional team will adjust to the lighting in your home and work with each setting to create a stunning, cohesive look.
One of the most important parts of your newborn session is ensuring your little one is as comfortable as possible. We recommend setting the room temperature between 75-80°F (24-27°C), as newborns are happiest in warm surroundings, especially if they’re in just a swaddle or blanket. A cozy, well-heated room allows your baby to relax and drift off into a peaceful sleep, which creates beautiful, serene moments on camera.
Plan to feed your baby just before the session starts to ensure they are full, content, and more likely to stay calm or fall asleep. Additionally, dressing your newborn in loose, easy-to-remove clothing can make transitions smoother and prevent any skin marks.
Personal touches like special blankets, family heirlooms, or favorite outfits add sentiment to your session. If there are items meaningful to your family that you’d like to incorporate, we encourage you to gather these before the session begins. We also offer an array of refined props and accessories designed for newborn sessions, and our stylist is available to help guide you in selecting pieces that enhance the overall look and feel.
These little details will be thoughtfully woven into the story we tell through photography and film, capturing your family’s unique personality and style.
Your in-home newborn session should be a relaxed and memorable experience. With our full-service approach, we handle all the details, allowing you to focus on what matters most—your family. These sessions often blend candid and posed moments, and we encourage you to let go of any stress or expectations and enjoy the moments as they unfold.
Rest assured, we are here to support you every step of the way. If your baby needs a little extra time or care, we take a relaxed, patient approach, letting your newborn set the pace. Your family’s comfort is our top priority, and with our experience in photographing and filming newborns, we’re prepared to adapt to any need that arises during the session.
Our goal is to provide you with stunning, heirloom-quality photographs and film that capture the essence of these fleeting moments. With our guidance and expertise, you’ll have a beautiful, timeless record of your newborn’s early days that you can pass down to future generations.
For more tips or to learn about our approach to newborn photography and videography, feel free to reach out. We look forward to helping you create lasting memories in the comfort of your own home.

Capturing David and Kelsey’s wedding in Isanti, MN was an incredibly special experience. Not only because I was photographing a family member’s big day on their private acreage nestled within gorgeous Northern, Minnesota, but because despite the weather’s unpredictability, the day turned out to be filled with such love and emotion.
The forecast promised sunny skies and a perfect 60-degree day. However, clouds quickly rolled in, and rain made an appearance a few times. Despite that, we managed to capture all of the couple’s portraits in just 20 minutes throughout the entire day to work around the weather and gloomy skies. The sun decided to bless us at just the right moment—peeking out during the ceremony before slipping behind the clouds again, leaving us with a soft, moody atmosphere that gave a cozy, intimate vibe to the day.
The bridal party was mostly family, which added to the intimacy and warmth of the celebration. One of the most heartwarming moments of the day, one that brought tears to both Kelsey’s and my eyes, was when David revealed the inside of his suit jacket. It was lined with photos of their two beloved dogs who had passed away. Kelsey’s reaction was priceless, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. It was a testament to how sweet and thoughtful David and Kelsey are as a couple.
We also made the most of the lingering fall colors around the yard, strategically incorporating the vibrant leaves into the background of their portraits. Their day wrapped up with an incredible catered supper from Unique Catering and a wedding cake, complete with adorable little dog figurines, baked by a talented family member, Kylie’s Sweet Treats. It was truly the perfect way to celebrate these two.

Chase and Holland were such a joy to capture photographs of for their engagement session. It was the perfect mid-October day to soak in all the fall vibes! We met up an hour before sunset, and while it was a bit chilly, we found plenty of gorgeous fall backdrops to work with. The golden hour glow was set to make an appearance, but the sun dipped behind the clouds most of their session, so we didn’t get the full effect. Even so, the overcast lighting created a beautiful, soft mood for the shoot.
This sweet couple from from Estelline and Milbank made the drive to Clear Lake, where we started at an outdoor studio area that offered cozy, rustic vibes. From there, we headed to the Clear Lake beach for some lakeside shots, and then moved on to a nearby public wildlife area. The slew background at that spot was perfect for some serene, nature-filled photos.
One of the highlights of the session was their adorable dog, who was an absolute scene-stealer! I loved capturing some sweet moments with their furry companion. Chase and Holland were so easygoing and full of excitement, which made the entire shoot flow effortlessly. Their laid-back attitude and love for each other really shined through in every image. Another highlight was getting some super fun photographs of the couple and their pup in Chase’s renovated truck–isn’t it pretty?!
What made this session extra special is that we were able to take their engagement photos on the exact date of their wedding—just one year away! It was a fun little detail that got us all even more excited for their October wedding next year. I cannot wait to capture more of their love story when the big day arrives!

Andrea and Nathan’s wedding at Cloud 9 on October 12 was the perfect celebration of love and fall beauty. With the crisp autumn air and vibrant colors in full swing, their day was magical from start to finish.
We began the day at Terry Redlin Art Center, where Andrea and Nathan shared their first look. The fall colors surrounding the center made for such an elegant backdrop, highlighting their excitement and love as they saw each other for the first time. After the first look, we captured their portraits, and the soft sunlight filtering through the trees added warmth to each moment. Their bridal party soon joined us for group photos, and the energy and joy were contagious.
The ceremony at Cloud 9 was held outdoors, and it couldn’t have been more stunning. Surrounded by golden leaves and the soft breeze of October, Andrea and Nathan exchanged vows in front of family and friends. The scenery framed their love story perfectly, and the natural beauty of the space added a romantic, earthy touch to the ceremony.
Afterward, everyone moved inside for the reception, held in Cloud 9’s spacious hall. The décor was simple yet elegant, complementing the fall ambiance that carried throughout the day. The celebration was filled with heartfelt toasts, dancing, and laughter, making it a night to remember.
Before the evening ended, we made a quick escape to Pelican Lake for sunset photos. The lake was calm, with the sky painted in hues of orange and pink, creating a breathtaking backdrop for Andrea and Nathan’s final portraits of the day. The peaceful moments by the water were a beautiful way to close out their wedding.
Andrea and Nathan’s Cloud 9 wedding was nothing short of perfect, capturing the essence of autumn love and natural beauty. It was a joy to be part of their day and witness their love story unfold!

Brook and Alex’s Canby, MN wedding on October 4th, was a celebration filled with love, laughter, and personal touches that made the day truly special. The ceremony and getting ready took place at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canby, MN, while the reception was held at the VFW in Gary, SD. We took all the couple’s, bridal party, and family portraits at the beautiful Lake Elsie and Buffalo Ridge, adding even more magic to the day.
Brook and Alex are a pair who truly enjoy life together. Whether it’s playing disc golf, finding new hiking trails for their pups, or playing board games, they love spending time with each other. Their relationship began in the most modern way—through a simple DM from Alex asking Brook about mutual connections in Watertown. That message sparked a connection, and from there, it just clicked.
When asked about their favorite memory of each other, Brook mentioned the first time she saw Alex talk about his nephews, a moment that showed his deep love for family. Alex’s favorite memory was, unsurprisingly, when he proposed. The look of pure joy on Brook’s face is something he’ll never forget.
One of the best personal details from the day was Brook’s choice to wear her “Brook” tennis shoes—totally fitting for her personality. The couple’s love for sports shone through in their reception, where they thoughtfully created a fun space for kids, complete with games and toys, making sure everyone had a blast.
The October day brought classic fall weather with temperatures around 65°F, though gusts of 40+ miles per hour wind added some excitement during portraits! The vibrant fall colors provided the perfect backdrop for their outdoor photos. The day was filled with heartfelt moments, laughter, and a lot of energy, especially during the portrait session with the lively bridal party. They were an absolute joy to work with, bringing so much excitement that made for some fantastic, authentic shots.
The wedding party’s attire was stunning. The bridesmaids wore green and black velvet dresses, and the groomsmen added a fun twist by wearing necklace chains instead of ties, fitting Alex’s personality perfectly. Brook’s wedding dress had a deeply emotional touch: a heart sewn from her late uncle’s shirt, symbolizing their close bond. The colors of the day—greens, blacks, and oranges—were perfectly in sync with the autumn season, creating a rich, warm atmosphere.
A particularly touching moment came when Alex and Brook’s great-grandma slipped in after the ceremony to take photos with them. The family gathered, teary-eyed, watching as great-grandma hugged Brook, a sweet and emotional moment that everyone will remember. It is always such an honor to capture so many firsts and lasts when it comes to families and make sure every moment in-between are documented.
Another of my favorite moments was watching Alex’s reaction to seeing Brook for the first time as she walked down the ceremony aisle. It is always so sweet to mold each couple’s day around their decision to have a pre-ceremony first look or not and both are equally as sweet. Brook and Alex decided they wanted to do a back-to-back first touch and read each other their private vows before the ceremony and it was so beautiful.
Having grown up with Brook through 4-H and FFA, this wedding was especially dear to my heart. We spent so many summers prepping animals for shows and making unforgettable memories together from middle though high school. I still fondly look back on all the memories captured in photos and videos within the last decade and a half. Capturing her wedding day was emotional for me—seeing her marry her soulmate was a truly beautiful moment. It brings tears to my eyes to know she found the one God created uniquely for her–Alex!
One of my favorite parts of the day was during their sunset photos. We found a stunning grassy field in the rolling hills, but I accidentally fell into a coyote hole! Thankfully, we all had a good laugh, and it became a fun memory. This moment of the couple alone together, soaking in the quiet and beauty of the evening, was one of the most peaceful parts of the day.
“We are so excited to see the rest!! Absolutely LOVE these pictures. We are so grateful to have you a part of our day. Thank you for everything you did, we really can’t thank you enough.”
Brook and Alex’s Canby, MN wedding was truly one for the books—a day full of love, joy, and unforgettable memories.
